Equus 3160 Innova,

If you are a DIY'er or a mechanic that has to share a scan tool and have some extra money, this is it. If you go to a box store, you will spend double if not triple on this same piece of equipment. If you just want to read codes, I would recommend a simpler cheaper version.

Super-Duper Device,
by Darntootin, 2010-07-18

I bought the Equus 3160 Innova ABS + Professional CanOBD2 Diagnostic Code Scanner.

What a great investment! Within a few minutes after it arrived, I had the OBDII 3160 scanner running. I quickly learned what my recurring problem was, and easily able to quench the "check engine" light. As a senior with great interest in cars, I can now diagnose and solve my own problems without fear of being taken to the cleaners at the dealer every time the warning lights come on. This 3160 gives me information I didn't even know my car computer could provide. It's really... really easy to use, and I highly recommend it.

Excellent Product,

This item was everything I expected it to be. Helped to resolve problems with several vehicles immediately. Very easy to use and understand.

less coverage than their cheaper 3100,
by manda53102, 2010-07-06

I did my research and wanted to get as much bang for the buck with a fairly inexpensive handheld "fancy" code reader. I at least wanted live data as I find it real useful. I opted to spend a little more for some ability to read ABS codes at least on my vehicles.

I have a 95 Chevy Blazer which is fully OBD2 compliant and should read just as a 96 would. I have a 2000 Chevy Venture that runs the same obd2 protocol as my blazer. Come to find out it will not read the 95. I understand they don't claim to but I have an older OTC OBD2 code reader that also doesn't claim to but it reads it no problem. I expected a newer model to have the capabilities of reading an obd2 system that one from 5 years ago did.

I've recently gotten my hands on an innova 3100 which is a much less expensive model that is basically just a code reader. I tried connecting it to my 95 obd2 blazer and it linked up in seconds. So the 3160's have less coverage for obd2 code reading than their much less expensive and older model. I have many calls into tech support but they straigt up admitted there's nothing they can do about it and weren't real pleasant about it either. I'll probably be returning this tool unless someone gets back to me with a fix for this problem but a few days have gone by and I haven't heard anything yet.

Great ODBII Scanner,

Good scanner. Fast and very simple to use. The best thing about the scanner is the follow on information available from the website RepairSolutions at [...]. From here you can enter your identified code, fill out some questions, and provide a little bit of narrative. You can get clearer information, recommended solutions, and sometimes even an estimated cost of parts and labor. You pay $14.95 per fix for this service unless there is not fix identified at the time you submit in which you are charged nothing but, normally, a few days later you will receive a possible fix. I can tell you that the fix that I got was not completely correct. The recommendation I received was to clean my fuel injectors. I finally found a GM dealership in Korea that had the GM Tech 2 scanner and they showed it needed a mass air flow sensor and MAP sensor. They checked the injectors and found no issues with them. But still, the scanner pulled the codes from the cars computer and based on those codes I was able to pull potential problems and upon reviewing the combination of the 3 codes saw that fuel injectors was listed as a potential problem in all 3 and the mass air flow and MAP sensor were only listed in 2 of the 3. The recommendation from the website was a good recommendation. I am now waiting on a response to code C0268 for which neither the dealership here nor the website has been able to answer.
